I am a very minimal person. That could be code for ‘lazy’ but minimal seems so much better. With that in mind, I wanted to create a minimalists guide to skincare. The lazy girl, as it were. You can check out my minimalists guide to makeup here.

Makeup remover

I’ve always used an oil to remove my makeup. I like the idea of using a micellar water or something fancy but it’s far too much admin for me. I also find that with a micellar water, I still wake up with a panda eye so it isn’t for me. Also, I swear that I wake up with more makeup on than I wore the day before whenever I try to get my makeup off with a micellar.

Face wash

Recently, I discovered facial soap bars and I don’t know why I wasted my money for so many years on new products. My face hates anything that foams a lot, I find that creams don’t really work and even just using water leaves my face feeling like a flip flop left in the sun. I started using this soap bar right at the beginning of lockdown and I am almost at the end of it. It does what it needs to, it’s mega cheap and it doesn’t dry my skin out. Win.

Serum

I am a fan of actual skincare products but I do find that it’s such a minefield trying to figure out what to buy and also, a hell of a waste of money. With that in mind, I went back to basics – literally. I now use a Boots Botanics face serum and I love it.

Moisturiser

I am currently switching between two. I love the Body Shop SPF moisturiser but I also love the E.L.F one too. In an ideal world, I think I would rather go for the Body Shop moisturiser as the SPF is much higher and I am a delicate flower that instantly wilts in the sun. Both are great shouts for me though.

Eye care

The only product that I am truly fussy about is my eye cream. I started getting wrinkles a few years ago and I have worked hard on these bad boys. So a moisturiser with an SPF is a must. This one is the only one that I’ve found that is vegan and has an SPF.

Oil

In the winter, my skin, like everyones, suffers. I like to use an oil after my moisturiser on days when it feels like I’m losing skin cells more rapidly than usual. For that, I go for my trusty Chia Seed Oil from The Ordinary. You don’t need much of this. There is such a fine line between sweaty and glowy – don’t cross it.

In the evening

After doing all of the usuals, I apply a night cream. If I’m totally honest, I haven’t found one that I love yet but this one is fairly good. I also have their eye cream too.

I also use a rose hip oil after my moisturiser. I really like it but if i’m honest, I’m not 100% sure on the benefits yet. It’s meant to have a similar effect to a retinol so if retinol is your bag, then I recommend this one.

So, that’s my little lazy girl skincare routine. I like to keep it fairly minimal and it really works for me. For me, less is more. Letting my skin breathe is important – especially now that we have to wear masks all of the time.
