Everyday Makeup & Skincare Essentials

Over the last 15 years as a wedding hair and makeup artist, I have been asked countless times for the essentials needed for a makeup kit. Whether you are starting on your makeup journey or are a lover of all things at Sephora, I have compiled a list of my everyday makeup and skincare essentials.

Everyday Makeup & Skincare Essentials – A Wedding Makeup Artist’s Guide to Looking Your Best

When you’re a wedding makeup artist, your work is your business card. Clients expect you to deliver flawless bridal beauty, but they also notice how you present yourself, whether it’s during a trial session, a wedding morning, or a consultation. As a Bristol-based wedding makeup artist, I take pride in my appearance, and I often get asked for my ‘go-to’ products, and the truth is, it’s minimal. But, it makes me ‘me’. That’s why a consistent everyday makeup and skincare routine isn’t just self-care, it’s part of my professional brand.

Here’s my tried-and-true routine for keeping skin radiant and makeup fresh all day, including your wedding day.

Step 1: Skincare – The Foundation for Flawless Makeup

Healthy skin makes makeup application easier and the results more stunning. Here’s my daily skincare checklist:

1. Gentle Cleanser – A sulfate-free, hydrating cleanser keeps skin clean without stripping essential moisture. This ensures makeup sits smoothly on the skin. I love this one from Byoma. I am a big fan of using a flannel or a muslin cloth to gently clean my skin and to rinse off any product.

2. Hydrating Toner or Essence – Boosts skin hydration and helps serums absorb better, keeping the complexion plump for long wedding days.

3. Vitamin C Serum – Brightens skin tone, fades pigmentation, and protects against environmental stress—ideal for early-morning starts and outdoor ceremonies. Please make sure to try these months ahead of your wedding day. I cannot tolerate Vitamin C, so I tend to steer clear; however, I know many people who love it.

4. Lightweight Moisturiser – Provides hydration without heaviness, creating the perfect base for long-wear bridal makeup looks.

5. Broad-Spectrum SPF 50 – Protects skin from sun damage while preventing premature ageing, especially important for outdoor weddings and photoshoots.

Step 2: Everyday Makeup – Professional, Polished, & Long-Lasting

As a Bristol-based bridal makeup artist, I aim for a natural yet polished look that’s approachable but still shows I’m a beauty professional.

1. Skin Tint or Light Foundation – Evens skin tone while letting natural skin texture shine through. Perfect for a fresh, non-cakey finish. I’m currently obsessed with this one by Lisa Eldridge

2. Concealer – Covers dark circles from early mornings and camouflages any redness or blemishes.

3. Cream Blush – Adds a soft, radiant flush that lasts through long hours on set or for your wedding day.

4. Tinted Brow Gel – Creates defined, natural-looking brows without the intensity of a sharp pencil. Ideal for softness for everyday looks

5. Mascara – Lengthening or waterproof mascara keeps eyes open and fresh-looking, even during emotional wedding moments.

6. Tinted Lip Balm or Satin Lipstick – Hydrates lips while giving a polished pop of colour that’s easy to reapply throughout the day.

Bonus Tips for your wedding day.

  • Keep a personal touch-up kit with blotting papers, mini powder, and a lip product.

  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin and energy levels up during long wedding timelines.

  • Remove all makeup thoroughly at night—no skipping, even after late receptions.

  • Exfoliate once a week to keep skin smooth for flawless makeup application.

Final Word
Your everyday beauty routine is more than personal grooming; it’s a reflection of you. By investing in both skincare and simple, long-lasting makeup, you’ll look your best on your wedding day and all the days that come before and after.
