Your wedding day is about feeling completely yourself – just the most beautiful, radiant version. Whether you’re working with a Bristol wedding hair and makeup artist (hi 👋) or planning to do your own bridal makeup, getting your skin glowing and your products working with you is key.
Here’s how to create your dream wedding makeup look – naturally, beautifully, and stress-free.
- Start with a great skincare routine
Before your makeup even comes out of the bag, skincare should be your number one focus. A gentle cleanse and a hydrating moisturiser are essential in the weeks leading up to your wedding – not just on the day itself.
Good skin prep gives your makeup the perfect base, helping foundation and concealer glide on smoothly. And please, for the love of SPF – wear it every day. Rain or shine, SPF 30 (or higher) should be part of your daily routine. Choose a separate SPF rather than one mixed into your moisturiser – it’s far more effective.
- Get the glow
Let’s talk glow. Not sweat. There’s a difference. Two of my favourite products for this are Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin and Lisa Eldridge Skin Tint . For an extra glow, you can use Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter before foundation for a lit-from-within finish.
Your skin should look radiant, not reflective. think honeymoon glow, not gym glow.
- Liquids and creams are your friends
When it comes to wedding makeup, I’m a huge fan of liquids and creams. They blend seamlessly into your skin, creating that effortless, fresh-faced finish that photographs beautifully. I think they photograph beautifully too. Just check my portfolio!
Liquid blush, bronzer, and highlighter add depth and warmth without caking or creasing – especially if your ceremony runs from day to night. Save powder products for eyeshadows (and even then, go easy).
- Keep lips soft and simple
I love a lipstick moment, but lately, I’ve been leaning towards something softer and more modern – tinted lip balms or a blend of clear balm with a dab of your favourite lipstick. It gives your lips a fresh, natural finish without needing constant touch-ups.
Bonus: your groom won’t have to worry about the “lipstick transfer” kiss moment. You’re welcome.
- Use minimal powder
Here’s a little insider secret: most of my brides and models don’t wear much powder at all. I only apply it where it’s really needed – under the eyes, around the nose, top lip, and a touch on the forehead.
This technique keeps your skin glowing in all the right places, without veering into shiny territory. You’ll look fresh and radiant from morning mimosas to the last dance.
Final thoughts
Creating your own bridal makeup look doesn’t need to be complicated. Keep it natural, glowing, and true to you. If you’re in Bristol (or nearby Bath or the Cotswolds) and decide you’d rather relax and let a Bristol wedding hair and makeup artist take the reins, I’d love to help bring your dream look to life.
Until then, grab your makeup bag, prep your skin, and start practicing your glow. ✨
Evie x
