As I head off to be a destination wedding hair and makeup artist for another wedding in Puglia, Italy, next week, it reminded me that I still haven’t written about one of my favourite destination weddings last year.
Taylor and her sister, Jordan, booked me for Taylor and Lexy’s Italian wedding just as the pandemic was beginning a few years ago. We initially had a zoom call and had a chat through all of our options for her wedding that was taking place the following year. We also managed to book everything during the first wave of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the pandemic was still going strong a few months later and so Taylor and her partner made the difficult decision to postpone to the following year. Luckily for me, Taylor still wanted me as her destination wedding hair and makeup artist. yay!
The Venue
Maserria Lamacerase is set inland, not too far from the beautiful Polignano a mare, which I’ve been lucky enough to visit for work many times. A whopping 7 times in 2022. It has everything you could ever need for your destination wedding. It has a bunch of rooms, a beautiful pool, and gorgeous views, its secluded so late-night parties probably aren’t too much of an issue, and it has a kitchen so you can help yourself and make whatever food you’d like, if you’re like me, and are constantly hungry!
The Hair & Makeup
For Taylor’s wedding hair and makeup trial, I drove down to London to meet with her and Jordan to try out some ideas.
As Taylors wedding was in June, we knew that it was going to be fairly warm in Puglia and so thought it was best to opt for a hair-up style that was relaxed looking, with some face-framing pieces. For makeup, we decided to keep everything fresh but make the eyes stand out a little more using some soft bronze and brown tones. What I love about Taylor is that she really wanted a messy, lived-in hair style. So much so that on her wedding day, I made it clear to her that she should absolutely get her hands into her hair once I had styled it so that she can mess it up a little more. I’m always on hand to fix anything that pops out of place if needed!
The Bridesmaids
Taylors dressed her bridesmaids in pale green and so I wanted to work with colours that complimented this. We decided on golds, browns, olive colours and neutrals. For the hair, Sophie let her bridesmaids decide on whatever they wanted and they all went for hair down with a relaxed wave, with really went well with Taylor’s up-do.
The Day
Taylors’s wedding day was so beautiful. The great thing about being a destination wedding hair and makeup artist Puglia, Italy, is that weddings tend to start much later than they do here in the UK and Sophie’s wedding was no different. Taylor and Lexy had planned their wedding for a 4pm start which gave me a perfect amount of time to get to work, have some snacks, catch up with everyone and for all of us to have a really relaxing getting-ready morning.
