Wedding hair and makeup artist – Coombe Lodge, Bristol

One of the very first venues I had the pleasure of getting a bride ready for her wedding day was Coombe Lodge in Blagdon, Bristol. Over the last 15 years, I have been lucky enough to have visited over 100 times! One of the main things I love about being a wedding hair and makeup artist for Coombe Lodge is how bright and airy the entire building is.

So far this year, I have been the wedding hair and makeup artist there over 10 times (and we’re only halfway through the year).

As a bridal hair and makeup artist, it is important to know not only what styles will work best for the bride and bridal party, but also the type of hair and makeup that will suit the venue and the photographers who work there.

This year, my bridal hairstyles have been a mixture of half up, all up or all down and I love that brides are embracing their individuality. As a bridal hair and makeup artist, it is key to really listen to what the clients want and of course, whilst we have opinions and expert advice, what will ultimately work best is whatever the bride is comfortable with.

One of my favourite weddings at Coombe Lodge in recent years has to be the same-sex wedding for Holly and Liv’s wedding back in 2023, shot by my all-round favourite wedding photographer, Albert Palmer.

Makeup

For Holly’s makeup, she wanted to look a little more elevated than natural, everyday wear, but also something to complement Liv, who doesn’t wear any. At our wedding hair and makeup trial, we decided that the makeup was a little on the natural side and so we wanted to lift it on the day.

To do this, we decided to opt for a slightly heavier coverage than usual and add more glow. Skin prep is key here, and Holly kept on top of her moisturisers, SPF and serums. At our trial, we went for quite soft, shimmery eye makeup and wanted to kick it up a notch. We opted to keep the colour palette the same, but just more of it. for Holly, an elevated look meant having some really defined eyeliner, so we worked together on the wedding day at Coombe Lodge to get the eyeliner looking perfect -defined, dark and extremely precise – cue the sweating when Albert is taking photographs of me trying to do that!

Holly doesn’t wear too much lipstick and didn’t want to top it up throughout the day, so we agreed to go for a very subtle blush, so that when it inevitably wears off, it didn’t matter too much.

I loved loved loved creating this look for Holly on her wedding day and I cannot wait for many more weddings at Coombe Lodge to come.
