A Winter Wedding at Pennard House
There’s something so special about a winter wedding, and Sam’s beautiful day at Pennard House in Somerset was no exception. With a crisp December backdrop and the most relaxed, joyful atmosphere, it was the perfect setting for a timeless bridal look.
Two Trials, One Style
Sam and I had two bridal trials ahead of the wedding, which is always such a lovely way to really refine a look. Initially, we created a soft low bun, but for the second trial we explored a classic French twist and we both instantly fell in love with it. I’m slightly obsessed with french twists at the moment btw.
The French twist felt elegant, modern, and perfectly suited to both Sam’s style and the setting at Pennard House. It’s one of those hairstyles that never dates, and it worked beautifully with the overall feel of the day.
Glowing, ‘Lit From Within’ Bridal Makeup
For Sam’s bridal makeup, the focus was all about skin. We wanted that “lit from within” glow – fresh, radiant, and healthy rather than heavy or overly done. This is especially important for a winter wedding. The sky can look a little flat and so it’s important to bring the glow into your skin to add some warmth and depth.
Her base was kept light and luminous, enhancing her natural complexion while still giving enough coverage to last all day. For the eyes, we chose soft champagne tones to add a subtle shimmer and brightness, keeping everything delicate and flattering.
We finished the look with soft individual lashes, which added definition without taking away from the natural feel of the makeup. The overall result was timeless, glowing, and completely effortless.
A Morning Full of Music (and Great Food)
One of my favourite parts of the day was the atmosphere during the morning prep. Sam and her bridesmaids had the best energy – relaxed, happy, and singing along to late 90s pop (which I fully appreciated!).
And a special mention to Pennard House, who made me a stunning vegan breakfast to keep me going – always a highlight of an early start!
Individual Style for the Bridal Party
I always love it when a bridal party chooses styles that reflect their individuality, and this group did exactly that. Each person opted for a look that made them feel comfortable and confident, while still complementing the overall aesthetic of the wedding.
It created such a natural, effortless feel across the group – nothing too “done”, just everyone looking like the best version of themselves.
A Perfect Winter Setting in Somerset
Pennard House is such a beautiful venue, and it works especially well for winter weddings. The soft seasonal light and cosy atmosphere created the perfect backdrop for Sam’s day, adding to the relaxed, intimate feel of the whole celebration.
Capturing The Day
The day was beautifully captured by Kylie on photography and James on Videography, both from StoryBox Films, and they documented everything so naturally. From the relaxed moments during the morning prep to the soft winter light throughout the day, the videos perfectly reflected the atmosphere. I also love working with them!
