Mothers of the brides don’t always get the praise they deserve. They are elegant, organized, and always focused on making the day perfect for their daughters. A personal bonus for me? They usually have a steady supply of snacks and tea — a lifesaver on wedding mornings in Bristol!
I think it’s such a treat when mothers (and soon-to-be mothers-in-law) in Bristol are given the opportunity to have their hair and makeup professionally done. Over the summer, I’ve worked with over 45 mothers and mothers-in-law, and what I love is that each one wanted something a little different than their usual look. Many were willing to step out of their comfort zones and let me create something tailored just for them.
Preparing the Skin for Makeup
Good makeup always starts with skin prep, regardless of skin type or texture. I usually begin with a gentle cleanse – currently, I’m using Evolve Cleanser.
On the day of the wedding, I keep skincare simple. Nothing will dramatically change your skin in one application, so I skip anti-wrinkle or “miracle” products. Instead, I focus on hydration:
- Hyaluronic acid
- Hydrating eye cream
- Moisturiser
- SPF 50 sunscreen (non-flashback formula)
I also love hydrating sprays, which are perfect for adding moisture before makeup or setting it afterwards. Favourites include Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray and Caudalie Beauty Elixir.
Choosing the Right Foundation
For mother of the bride makeup in Bristol, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all foundation. I prefer formulas with a subtle glow but nothing overly shiny. Currently, I like pairing Charlotte Tilbury Matte Foundation with Lisa Eldridge Glow Primer for a radiant yet natural finish.
Eye Makeup Tips
Soft but defined eyes work beautifully for mothers of the bride. My tips:
- Use soft browns or greys that complement your skin tone and eye color.
- Avoid harsh colours that can make eyes look sunken.
- Soft brown pencil eyeliners are excellent for definition without overpowering. Blend with a brush or cotton bud for softness.
Setting the Look
I am a dewy-skin fan, but it’s important to powder areas prone to shine:
- Top lip
- Under eyes
- Around the nose
- Forehead
Finish with Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray and your preferred lipstick or balm. (Confession: I’m still warming up to lip gloss — ’90s kid problems!)
Mothers of the bride in Bristol deserve to feel beautiful, confident, and pampered on the wedding morning. By tailoring skincare, foundation, and makeup to each individual, you can achieve a look that is timeless, elegant, and perfectly suited to the day.
