I love it when a bride asks me to be their wedding hair and makeup artist for their wedding at The Anran in Devon. Nestled in the beautiful countryside, The Anran is a perfect venue with overnight accommodation, a stunning greenhouse and even a pottery shop.
Stephanie contacted me in November 2022, before her wedding in September 2023. This is the perfect time to be researching your hair and makeup artist. See my blog here for a timeline.
When Steph contacted me, she explained that she wanted a natural makeup look (yay!) and perhaps something simple with her hair as her wedding dress had some embellishment. This was perfect for me and we discussed that we could wait a little while until we had our trial to come up with something to compliment the dress.
The venue
Steph’s wedding started bright and early for me with an arrival time of 8 am to get everyone ready by 1 pm. As usual, I leave more than enough time to stop for snacks and tea (tea is always a welcome addition to any wedding morning – P-S I’m vegan and my choice of milk is oat :-D)
The thing I love about being a wedding hair and makeup artist at The Anran is the light. Unfortunately, the British weather got the best of us and so the rain came on and off. But, the light is always great in the main bedroom, which is perfect for me.
The hair and makeup
Steph chose not to change a single thing about her trial. In fact, originally, Steph had opted to change how much of her hair was framing her face and so via email, we discussed pinning it back. The day came, and we reverted back to how everything was at the trial. I stress this over and over at the trial, we can change things as many times as you want in the lead-up to your wedding and can still make changes on your day 🙂
The bridesmaids opted to have their hair up to compliment Steph having her hair half up and half down.
Steph really loves a fishtail braid so we made sure to incorporate this into the hairstyle. We kept the waves nice and soft to provide a low admin upkeep for the day and we both just love a soft wave.
For makeup, we wanted a style that would look fresh and not heavy. Stephanie has a fair complexion and so we didn’t want anything that would weigh down her features. We in fact, didn’t even go for a lipstick. We decided that a tinted lip balm would be perfect and would allow of a soft flush of colour but nothing that Steph would need to keep reapplying.
