When most people think about booking a Bristol wedding makeup artist, they imagine someone arriving with a big makeup kit, curling irons and brushes, creating beautiful hair and makeup before disappearing once everyone is ready.
The reality is… that’s only a small part of the job.
After more than 15 years working as a bridal makeup artist and wedding hairstylist, I’ve realised that what my brides remember most isn’t always their lipstick shade or exactly which foundation I used. It’s how they felt on the morning of their wedding.
And that’s something no product can create on its own.
Creating Calm Before the Celebration
Wedding mornings can be emotional.
There are happy tears, nervous excitement, family members arriving, suppliers coming and going, dresses hanging up, flowers being delivered and someone inevitably asking, “Has anyone seen my earrings?”
My role is to create a calm space amongst all of that.
Yes, I’ll be creating glowing skin and elegant hairstyles, but I’m also quietly keeping an eye on the clock, making sure everyone is running to schedule and helping the morning feel relaxed rather than rushed.
A calm bride makes for beautiful photographs.
A Wedding Morning Isn’t Just About Makeup
Over the years, I’ve found myself doing far more than hair and makeup.
I’ve pinned buttonholes (I’m terrible at them by the way), zipped dresses, helped lace wedding gowns (I’m 10/10 with a ribbon), tracked down missing jewellery, made cups of tea, comforted nervous mums and reminded brides to stop for five minutes and actually eat something.
I’ve been handed hash browns by a thoughtful bride in Bristol to keep me going during an early start, enjoyed an incredible vegan breakfast at Pennard House, and driven through two feet of snow in Iceland before arriving to find the bridal party wondering what all the fuss was about because, as Canadians, they were completely used to it!
These moments are some of my favourite memories because they remind me that every wedding is completely unique.
You’re Inviting Someone Into One of the Most Important Mornings of Your Life
This is something I think is often overlooked when choosing a bridal makeup artist.
Your makeup artist isn’t someone you’ll spend half an hour with.
We’ll often be with you for four, five or even six hours before your ceremony.
We’ll meet your family, chat with your bridesmaids, work alongside your photographer and florist, and share some of the most emotional moments of the day.
That’s why it’s so important that you genuinely enjoy being around the person you book.
The trial isn’t just about testing hairstyles or choosing the perfect lipstick. It’s about getting to know each other and making sure you feel completely comfortable before the wedding day arrives.
Experience Brings More Than Beautiful Makeup
After more than 15 years in the beauty industry, I’ve been fortunate enough to work on weddings across Bristol, Somerset, the Cotswolds, Wales and destination weddings in Iceland, France, Italy and Cyprus.
Every wedding teaches you something new.
You learn how to work quickly without making anyone feel rushed.
Learn how to adapt when the weather changes.
You learn how to keep makeup looking fresh from early morning until the last dance.
Most importantly, you learn how to read the room.
Sometimes a bride wants quiet while she takes everything in. Other times the room is full of 90s pop, dancing bridesmaids and uncontrollable laughter. Knowing when to join in and when to quietly step back is just as important as knowing how to create the perfect smokey eye.
Hair and Makeup That Still Feels Like You
My approach has always been simple.
I don’t believe bridal makeup should disguise who you are.
Whether you’re dreaming of soft, glowing skin, modern bridal hair, a classic French twist or something a little more editorial, my goal is always the same: to create a look that feels authentic to you.
The best compliment I can hear is, “I still looked like myself.”
Looking for a Bristol Wedding Makeup Artist?
If you’re searching for a Bristol wedding makeup artist who specialises in natural, elegant bridal hair and makeup, I’d love to hear about your plans.
Whether you’re getting married in Bristol, the Cotswolds, Somerset or planning a destination wedding abroad, my aim is always the same: to help you feel calm, confident and completely yourself from the moment I arrive until you’re ready to walk down the aisle.
Beautiful hair and makeup are important.
But how you feel while you’re having them done matters even more.
