Companies who are not vegan or cruelty free

Did you know I’m vegan? No. Do you care? Ultimately, maybe not.

But, I’m sure most of you can agree that testing cosmetics on animals is unnecessary and wrong. Did you know that some of the biggest brands in the world still test on animals? Making them neither cruelty free or vegan.

I have been vegan for 5 years and in that time I have been transitioning my products from those that unnecessarily poison and harm animals to ones that don’t. Over the next year and I am working on moving towards products that are in the category of clean beauty. Products that not only do they not test on animals, but they contain no animal derived ingredients and aren’t full of harmful chemicals that can disrupt our endocrine systems and can cause damage to our bodies. Some ingredients in our day to day products can include parabens, sulphates and unnecessary fragrances that serve no purpose in a moisturiser.

Some major names that test on animals or pay to have their products tested on animals are:

Estee Lauder

MAC

Armani

Benefit

Bobbi Brown

By Terry

Clarins

Clinique

Dior

Chanel

Lancome

Laura Mercier

Maybelline

Nars

Tom Ford

YSL

These are just a few of them. There are hundreds more. There are many who may not directly test their products on animals but will pay for a third party to test for them, especially in countries such as China where it is a legal requirement to sell there.

The term cruelty-free is not regulated by any government agency and many companies list themselves that way when they aren’t. It is currently up to the individual companies to label themselves how they see fit which leads to a misuse of the word.
