When I was a little girl, I always dreamed of being Cinderella; aside from being kept in a basement, doing all of the housework and being told what to do, I thought of being whisked away to the ball by my friends, dressed beautifully and get to meet my Prince Charming. Of course, none of that happened (apart from the housework!).
Nevertheless, I live in hope and I have put together a little step by step of taking you from office to the belle of the ball. Most of us on a day to day basis will wear the basics; foundation, concealer and powder. From this step, it is easy to kick it up a notch and change the entire look without having to add too much. If your foundation still looks in a fairly decent condition, then all you may need is a little dusting of powder over the top to give it a little refresh. Do a quick spot check with concealer if there are any red areas coming through.
A cream blush is a great way to give a little vibrancy to your skin. Apply a little with your fingers or a stippling brush to the apples of your cheeks. Tip – it helps to smile a little while doing this.
It’s nice to go a little heavier with your eyeshadow in the evening to really make your eyes pop. Take a neutral tone such as cream or nude and apply to the inner corners of your eyelid. Then, take a darker colour, such as a deep purple, brown, or grey and apply it across the entire eyelid, blending softly into the neutral tone. Finally take an even darker colour and apply it to the crease of your eye socket and blend it down on to your lower lash line.
For added definition, consider a technique called tightlining. This is simply lining the top waterline and lower waterline with a black or grey kohl pencil. This will create a striking appearance and make your eyes pop.
It’s time to really kick your make-up in to gear. My favourite way to do this is with a lipstick. I believe that you can wear any colour you’d like, it’s the shade of that colour that really matters. If you are fair skinned, colours with a blue undertone look great for an evening look. If you have an olive complexion, then an orange undertone will look perfect. Don’t be afraid to layer these colours to really make them last.
Grab your glass slippers (or shoes that you can barely walk in), get in your magic pumpkin (probably an Uber) and get off to the ball!
