Regardless of whether you are out with your girlfriends this Valentines Day, having a romantic evening with your significant other or heading out to see Deadpool by yourself (more than likely where I’ll be) you can always dress to impress yourself, or the guy selling you the popcorn bucket for one.
Personally, I think keeping your skin soft and natural is a good idea for any date, regardless of who you are out with, with a focus on either your eyes or lips. Concentrating on your eyes is best for a date when food is involved, or if you are planning on shovelling nachos in your face Evie style.
Your foundation should have enough coverage to hide any blemishes and even out skin tone, but be light enough to see any cute freckles and to let your skin breathe. Use a kabuki brush to really buff foundation in to your skin and help it sit perfectly with your complexion.
A peach or pink blush is perfect for an evening out when applied to the apples of your cheeks. It will give a natural flush and make you glow under candlelight. If you are a lover of bronzer then apply this first and then a blush on top.
If you have never used a highlighter then you are late to the party, but on Valentines Day, you can give it a try. A highlighter, quite simply, highlights an area. A subtle highlighter such as Mac’s ‘Soft and gentle’ is perfect for applying to the tops of your cheekbones, below your brow bone and cupids bow (the middle section of your upper lip).
Keep eyeshadow to a minimum, perhaps with soft pinks and browns. You want to draw attention to your eyes but not overpower the rest of your face. Lashings of mascara and a soft brown eye pencil can work wonders to make your eyes pop!
My favourite lipstick at the moment is Syrup by Mac. It is a soft pink colour that almost looks like your natural lip colour with an added kick to it. Its super soft, moisturising, natural looking and stays in place. Which is just what you need when you have finished an entire bucket of popcorn by yourself.
