North Cadbury Court continues to be one of my favourite wedding venues in the southwest of England. I was so excited when Gaby asked me to be her wedding hair and makeup artist there last month.
Gaby got in touch with me around two years before her wedding to ensure she could get the suppliers she wanted for her wedding and I’m so glad she chose me.
The trial
Gaby came to my apartment in Bristol for her hair and makeup trial. I immediately offered tea/coffee/water or slightly joked and offered her a gin. 10 minutes later, we’re having a gin and tonic on a sunny afternoon in July discussing her hair and makeup ideas.
Gaby has naturally wavy hair and we wanted to keep the wave and incorporate it into her wedding hairstyle. We opted to define her wave and go for a half-up half-down hairstyle with some loose twists. Half-up hairstyles allow something to anchor a veil into and make your look feel a little polished without being too structured.
For Gaby’s makeup, we wanted to concentrate on her eyes and keep everything else fairly muted. We decided on soft matte colours for the eyeshadow. We used a light brown for the lid and then added depth to the look with a darker shadow in the eye crease.
The wedding day
As we did Gaby’s hair and makeup trial a year before her wedding, I was expecting Gaby to have perhaps changed her mind a little (this is totally normal). To my surprise, Gaby wanted to keep everything the same, with the exception of doing her own mascara – this is super common. As I use disposable mascara wands for hygiene reasons, I never that I can get enough lift to give the lashes the impact they should have.
The wedding went so smoothly and Gaby’s bridesmaids were pure joy to be around.
Thanks for having me as your wedding hair and makeup artist at North Cadbury Court, Gaby.
