Mens Skincare – Bath Chronicle

Skincare routines for men are often overlooked, considered less ‘manly’ or wasted time when you could be in the pub (trust me guys, women feel this too sometimes), but skin care for men is just as important as it is for women.

Starting with even the basics will make such a difference to the way your skin looks and feels.

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

You’ve heard it before; drink more water, but it is so essential for keeping your skin plump and less tired looking. Even a little increase will help, I promise.

2. Get enough sleep.

We all have busy lives, but its Fathers Day, get your loved ones to treat you to a lie in once in a while, just go easy on the fry-ups and opt for juice or herbal tea instead of coffee.

3. Wash.

Twice a day is great but once a day will also be helpful for removing any dirt or grease that has built up throughout the day.

Play attention to the water temperature. Use warm water to open up the pores and cool water to close them, after washing.

4. Exfoliate.

Once or twice a week is all that is needed to slough off dead skin cells and give your face a new lease of life and prevent ingrown hairs. Preferably do this before shaving and not after as otherwise you may end up with irritated, red skin.

5. Moisturise.

Everyday, without exception. Twice is even better. Add an SPF for extra brownie points. Not only will this leave you with soft skin, it will also be protecting your skin from sun damage, age spots and wrinkles.

If your skin is particularly dry, consider using a serum before applying moisturiser. Serums have added ingredients such as vitamins and peptides to help your skin look plump and firm.

6. Lay off the booze.

You don’t have to cut out alcohol completely, but reducing the amount you drink could help you skin look more awake and more importantly, it’ll make you feel better not waking up with a heavy head from the night before.
