Don’t shoot the messenger, but Christmas is coming. On the brightside, this does mean Christmas parties and yet another chance to get dressed up and (hopefully) dine out on the boss’ money!

Velvet and cashmere textured foundations are the mother of all foundations at the moment giving a radiant feel that is still reasonably matte. They give a beautiful soft finish to your skin and are so easy to apply. Use a damp foundation brush or your fingertips to really work in to the skin starting from the centre of your face and blending outwards. Use an iridescent primer for a little bit more of a glow if needed and only powder where you tend to get oily e.g nose, forehead and chin.

This year, ditch the dark colours and sparkle and opt for a more sophisticated approach to make-up. Warm, nude colours are all totally wearable this season and look fantastic on all skin tones. Mix up your nude colours and add a pop of rose to your cheeks, lids or lips. These look great on almost everyone. If you have olive tones in your skin, then try adding plum colours to your eyelid crease or lips.

Matte lipsticks are the way forward over the coming months. Not only do they have great staying power, they are pretty much non-movers so you won’t need to reapply as much as sheer lip colours. A great colour that suits absolutely everyone is MAC’s Ruby Woo. This colour is bright, vibrant, matte and definitely for the brave. Apply in layers, blotting after each application for the ultimate staying power.

If you have never heard of tight lining then you have never experienced the impact it can make on your entire look. Tight lining is quite simply, taking a kohl or gel liner and lining the upper eyelid waterline, as well as the top lashes and the lower lashes. This will add extra definition to your eyes and make the lashes appear fuller. Pop a little highlighter or light coloured eye shadow on the inner corners of your eyes to open them up a little too!
