What To Expect From Your Wedding Hair And Makeup Trial

Never had a hair and makeup trial before? Don’t worry – I have and I know exactly what’s going to happen 🙂 Here’s a little ‘what to expect from your wedding hair and makeup trial’ article.

Before The Trial

Initially, we will start our trial way before we even meet. We will talk through ideas over email and swap images, perhaps a Pinterest board or two like mine here and here so that you can know what to expect from me.

At The Trial

We will organise a trial, either at your home or mine, usually for mid-afternoon on a weekend. Trials are best in the daytime and in good lighting.

It’s a good idea to have 2-3 images of your favourite hair and makeup ideas to hand so that we can discuss these when I arrive. You can see some of my latest hair styles here We will then re-create your favourite looks. Please arrive with clean hair and with your makeup done as you would usually have it on a day to day basis.

We will make tweaks to this look as we go to make sure that you leave happy.

If you have another style in mind that you would like to try, please bear in mind that your hair will get harder to re-work. Some hair styles have different curling techniques and once your hair is curled one way, it will be difficult to re-do it. Obviously, we understand that the vision in our heads doesn’t always translate in reality so we will always try our best to re-work hair and makeup at the trial.

On the occasions where this isn’t possible, we will recommend another trial or talk through the changes we would like to make on your wedding day. Sometimes, I prefer to get to your wedding a little earlier to leave some extra time, should we need it.

Duration

Hair and makeup trials usually last around 2 – 2.5 hours (I’m quite the talker), however this can vary from bride to bride. Sometimes we will land on the correct style straight away. In this case, I will usually recommend trying a few different things to make sure that you are happy. But don’t worry, if the trial lasts longer than that, I won’t abandon ship. I am there until you are happy or another trial with fresh ideas and hair can be rescheduled.

Preparation

Coming with clean and dry hair is great for trials as is coming with your makeup how you usually wear it. Another good idea, is to wear a light coloured top – something white is usually preferable. If we are doing the trial at your home, having a mirror to hand is also good so that you can see what I am doing.

If you have any sensitivities then please let me know or if there are any products that you know work well on your skin, then we can of course use these.

I can’t wait to meet you all!
